Executive Director
Robert Weiss LCSW, CSAT is founder and Executive Director of The Sexual Recovery Institute - Los Angeles, an outpatient sexual addiction treatment center. An acknowledged writer of sexual addiction literature, he is co-author of "Cybersex Exposed: Simple Fantasy to Obsession" (Hazelden 2001), author of "Treating Sexual Addiction" in The Handbook of Addictive Disorders (Wiley and Sons 2004), Cruise Control: Understanding Sex Addiction in Gay Men (Alyson Books) and co-author of the fall 2006 book: Untangling the Web: Sex, Porn and Fantasy Addiction in the Internet Age (Alyson Books). Currently Mr Weiss serves on the editorial board of The Journal of Sexual Addiction and Compulsivity.
A UCLA MSW graduate and trained under the direction of Dr. Patrick Carnes, Mr. Weiss is a former board member and committee chair of The National Council for Sexual Addiction and Compulsivity and has lectured for The UCLA Neuro-Psychiatric Institute, The American Association of Sex Educators and Therapists The National Association of Social Work and in Washington DC at The NIH (National Institutes of Health), among many others. He provides clinical training for numerous multi-addiction treatment centers, among which are Pine Grove, The Gentle Path Program, Sierra Tucson, The Life Healing Center and The Meadows. Media appearances in the past year include The Oprah Winfrey Show, The Today Show, Dateline NBC and CNN. Past appearances also include 20/20 and ABC World News Tonight. Mr. Weiss is the featured therapist in “Hypersexuality” a 90-minute Discovery Channel program about Sexual Addiction filmed by the BBC. This year Mr. Weiss was extensively interviewed for an upcoming Showtime special on the role of Pornography in American Life.
Media appearances include Dateline NBC, 20/20, ABC World News Tonight and CNN. Currently, Mr. Weiss is the primary therapist in "Sex Mania" a 90-minute program about Sexual Addiction filmed by the BBC. This show is in rotation on Discovery Channel Health and is also shown internationally. Upcoming media include a lengthy role in National Geographic's Naked Science (November - 2005) about 'Sexuality and the Human Mind' and a key professional role in a major documentary on 2005 HBO special 'Pornography in America'.
In a field with very few recognized experts, Mr. Weiss is an acknowledged professional in the assessment and treatment of persons with addictive sexual disorders and sexual offending.
