What Is a Sex Addiction Intervention?

What Is a Sex Addiction Intervention?

Sex addicts are usually deep in denial about the extent of their addiction and the negative effects it is having on not only them, but the people around them. Sex addicts craft a web of lies and deceit designed to perpetuate their addiction, and they tell those lies not just to their spouses, partners, families, friends, and employers, but to themselves. Worst of all, they believe the darn things, and they fully expect everyone else to also believe them. Because of this, it can be incredibly difficult to convince a sex addict that he or she is dealing with an addiction, that the addiction is ruining his or her life (and the lives of others), and that he or she needs help.

If you’ve got a sex addict in your life, it’s possible that you’ve approached this person on your own, perhaps multiple times, hoping to instigate change. You’ve probably pleaded, cajoled, and even threatened, all to no avail. If so, you’re not alone in your frustration. Countless others who’ve been affected by another person’s sexual addiction have found themselves in exactly the same boat. Happily, there are counseling professionals - known as interventionists - who specialize in breaking through sex addicts’ denial. Read more at sexualrecovery.com.

Getting High on Sexual Infidelity

With both genders, one reason for cheating may be that “getting away with it” makes people feel good both emotionally and psychologically. Although this research did not deal specifically with sexual activity, it did look at unethical behavior in general, and the findings can certainly be extrapolated to sexual activity.

Two-Week Intensive Treatment Programs begin September 22nd!

The SRI Two-Week Intensive is a program of therapy and education designed to help our clients identify and eliminate all sexual acting out behavior, and to develop the skills and tools needed to prevent sexual relapse.

The Two-Week Intensive Program at SRI is a cost-effective and more time-effective alternative to the traditional 4-6 week hospital stay or residential treatment programs. It is our belief, based on our decades of experience, that most sex addicts do not require a lengthy stay in a controlled environment. Our program offers many similar benefits while minimizing the disruption in our clients' lives.

We've Moved

We're pleased to announce the Sexual Recovery Institute has moved to a new, larger space!

The new offices are just a few miles from the previous offices (if needed, please call us for the new address). They are still convenient for our clients, yet miles apart in terms of improved space. The offices have better handicapped access and there is secured convenient parking in the building.

"SRI has continued to grow, and the new space will allow us to accommodate the increased demand for the intensive outpatient treatment program," said Program Director Monica Blauner. "The offices include space to add additional intensives and help more clients recover from sex and love addiction," Blauner added. "SRI will also be able to expand programs to help partners of sex and love addicts heal from their trauma."

Recovering from Infidelity Group

Addiction Specialist Marty Simpson, LMFT, CSAT, hosts a weekly group therapy session focusing on recovering from infidelity. The group is psycho-educational and process oriented.

In a safe and affirming environment, group members receive information about the trauma of infidelity and the experience of PTSD.

A focus is placed on exploring issues of trust and vulnerability, developing effective communication skills, and creating and sustaining healthy boundaries. Members are empowered to define goals for healthy, fulfilling relationships and begin living their best life now.

Members have an opportunity to process feelings and share their experience with others who are dealing with similar issues in a supportive environment facilitated by a clinician with years of experience in treating partners of sex addicts.
