Sexual Recovery Institute’s Robert Weiss Joins Addiction Experts to Talk about Sex, Gaming, Shopping, and Gambling

Hosted by the California Society for Clinical Social Work, the conference for clinicians will provide an overview and analysis of process addictions in the 21st century

LOS ANGELES, CA–(January 12, 2011)–The Sexual Recovery Institute, an internationally recognized sexual addiction treatment center located in Los Angeles, California, has announced that Founding Director Robert Weiss, LCSW, CSAT-S, will join three notable addiction experts for “Addictions in the 21st Century,” hosted by the California Society for Clinical Social Work.

“We believe that his understanding of how technology has impacted addiction over the last decade, along with our other participating addiction experts, will provide clinicians with knowledge and tools they may not otherwise have.”

The one-day conference will provide an overview of the assessment and treatment of four types of process addictions: sex, gaming, shopping, and gambling. Featured presenters will emphasize the treatment process and look at the neurobiology, underlying causes, self-destructive behaviors and denial, which are part of these addictive behaviors.

* “Video Gaming Addiction and the Therapeutic Use of Video Gaming in Mental Health Treatment” – William Huang, MD

“Addictions in the 21st Century” will take place at the Sheraton Gateway LAX (6101 W. Century Blvd., Los Angeles) on Saturday, January 29, 2011 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (registration begins at 8:30 a.m.) and will draw professionals in the addiction field and those continuing education credits: LCSWs, MFTs, APA Accreditation and Addiction Counselors.
