Study Says 40 Million Workers Viewing Porn Daily While on the Job
Employees are looking at much more than expense reports and strategic plans in the office, warn a recent article. Instead, it’s online porn that’s capturing a great deal of screen space during work hours, despite the risks.
A recent study from Dr. Christoph Ahlers, sex therapist, suggests that at least 60 million logins are noted daily to one of the globe’s biggest no-charge pornography websites. An estimated 40 million of those logins are happening during the workday at employee workstations. Ahlers’ findings were shared at an Australia conference on treatment for sex addiction and other sex-related problems.
Calling the findings part of a global issue, experts point out that pornographic activity online shows definite patterns, with a great deal of workers accessing the material during the workday and another late-night peak in access to porn sites.
The rise in pornography use at work may indicate growing numbers of people living with pornography addiction. Research indicates that changes occur at the brain level in key areas related to pleasure when people excessively engage in pornography, and that over time, strong cravings can occur.
Pornography addiction is also progressive, and people may be unable to resist the urge to view the material even when the consequences are known.
Not only is pornography addiction linked to job loss, loss of productivity, and serious financial problems, it is also an increasingly noted factor in relationship problems. As higher levels of porn or more intense or bizarre types of pornography are viewed, the person living with the addiction may be unable to maintain sexual interest in their real-life partner.
Individuals whose partners are involved in pornography may also experience deep emotional problems from trying to live up to the images and scenes depicted in porn material.
Individuals viewing porn in the workplace may believe they can stop the addiction on their own, but like other addictions, professional help is needed to reach recovery from pornography addiction and return to quality of life.
